If you had sex with her on May 24rd. Her due date would of been Feb 14th. She was almost 39 weeks when she delivered and 8lb 8oz baby is very normal for being that far along. So Yes you could be the dad. And the women should not of seemed puzzled since the dates match up. Some things you should know drs do NOT go by conception. They go by the last period(so add two week on to conception). Another thing is a pregnancy month only last 4 weeks and some months have 5 weeks in it. So she was 9months not 8. And a women is considered full term at 37 weeks and a normal weight is 6 to 8lbs but could be more or less.
